The most important key to the perfect fitting jeans is in the rise! The rise is the area from the waistband to the crotch. This is the area that ensures a good, flat fit because it can't be altered! If the rise is too long, the jeans bunch up and you look like you have a diaper full. If the rise is too short the jeans crinkle across the hip and you look pinched with camel-toes.
If you are short waisted, look for a lower rise to lengthen your torso. If you are long waisted, chose a slightly higher rise to create the illusion of a shorter torso and longer legs.
Keep it simple!
Embellished pockets, extra zippers and flaps all add volume to the rear. If you have a flat butt, add the pockets. If you are blessed in the backside, keep the area free of accessories. Flared jeans tend to shorten the leg line, so avoid them if your under 5'4" for a longer leaner look. The most flattering jean is a mid-rise with a uniform dark wash and either a straight or modified boot-cut leg.
Examine your body type for balance!
If you're big on top, a wide-leg jean adds balance to your figure. If you're bigger on the bottom, stick with a straight leg to downplay this area. If you are blessed with curves, try a boot-cut jean to balance your hips and thighs.
To Stretch or not to stretch?
Jeans that stretch can give a little shape to straight, up and down body, but stretch doesn't work when it highlights flab under the rear. Jeans with stretch tends to lose their shape faster too.
Shop with fit, not jean size in mind. Size should be irrelevant if the jeans fit well and flatter your curvaceous figure.
Avoid tapered or bell-bottom jeans since they can make you look wider and shorter(unless your petite).
Stay away from low-rise jeans if you've got a belly of any size. Instead, select mid-rise jeans that will hold your belly in a little bit.
